School Leaders

Mentone Park offers its students opportunities to develop their leadership skills through our School and House Captains/Vice Captains program as well as our Junior School Council. Students are elected by their peers for these roles, which are seen as an honour and privilege.

School Captains
School Captains and Vice Captains are our whole school leaders.
Their role is to represent the school at various events and activities and to help run the school assemblies. School Captains support the vision of the school and are exemplary leaders in modelling school values.

House Captains
At Mentone Park all students belong to a school house.
Due to our proximity to Moorabbin Airport, our houses are named after famous aviators of the past: Hawker, Flynn, Kingsford-Smith and Hinkler. House Captains have a role in promoting and supporting their house at events such as the House Sports Day.
They encourage their house members to earn points to win the coveted House Shield each year.

Junior School Council
Junior School Council representatives are elected from Years 3 to 6 to be the student voice at Mentone Park. J.S.C. has a role of canvassing student ideas for improvements and suggestions for the school and bringing these to the attention of the school administration for consideration. They also have a key role in fundraising for
charities that they select each year.

Green Gang
The Green Gang work hard to reduce our impact on the Earth. Their mission is to contribute positively to create a clean, safe and healthy environment and preserve its precious resources for future generations. The Green Gang members and leaders address students at the school assembly, plan, organise and assist with the running of environmental activities such as Walk to School Day, Rubbish Free Lunch Challenges and National Tree Planting Day. They also coordinate the little day-to-day actions such as composting, paper recycling and watering the veggie patch with water caught from under the drinking taps. Everyone is encouraged to help which really adds up to make a BIG difference in saving the world!
Kid's Cafe Committee
Our award winning healthy canteen benefits from an energetic group of parents and students. The student representatives provide an important link between the canteen and school community. They address students at the school assembly, plan, organise, supervise and assist with the running of the canteen, providing great support to the parents. One of their most exciting and rewarding roles is to celebrate the Kids' Cafe's birthday every year with a festive cooking event.
